Mr. James M. Fluker, Commercial Consul & Principal Commercial Officer – South India, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai recently met with AmCham members to discuss potential business opportunities in the US. He also briefed them on the upcoming Select USA Summit in D.C., June 20-22, 2018.

Jim Fluker began his assignment as Commercial Consul in Chennai in August 2017. In this position, he is responsible for protecting U.S. commercial interests and expanding U.S. exports in South India, including the key commercial centers of Bangalore and Hyderabad.
From 2013-17, he was Commercial Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, where he oversaw Commercial Service operations for Belgium and the Netherlands.
Jim began his career with the U.S. Commercial Service in 1992, and has also served in Caracas, Istanbul, Almaty, Barcelona, Ankara, Riyadh and Islamabad.
Prior to joining the Commercial Service, Jim was a commercial banker based in New York from 1981-91, first with Manufacturers Hanover Trust and then The Bank of New York, where he was Vice President for Trade Finance.
Jim was born in Washington, DC. He earned a BA in History at the University of Kansas, and an MBA at the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He has a received a number of Department of Commerce and State awards, including the Director General’s award for innovation, and the ITA Silver Medal.
